“I have had the great fortune of traveling to and speaking in South Africa. First in 2008 at The Sun City Resort in Rustenburg, South Africa for the South African Production and Inventory Control Society – SAPICS. And then again in 2009 at The Sun City Resort again presenting a motivation and sales program to the Resort leadership team and selective staff. My wife and I toured South Africa for 3 weeks on a game Safari to enjoy the wonderful wildlife and South African Savannahs. I have a sincere love and passion for motivational speaking, especially when it takes me to such a wonderful country like South Africa. The richness of the animals, scenic beauty, and the South African people are what made my trips memorable experiences. I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and I am just as dedicated to ensure your event is a tremendous success. I take great pride in my work and have been lucky enough to do what I love for the past two decades. I put many hours of research and practice into each of my keynote presentations so your audience receives the best motivational keynote possible

Why Durban?

Originally named Port Natal, Durban is the largest city in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal. It is the third largest city in South Africa, the busiest port in the country, with the business center of Durban sitting on the Indian Ocean. This also makes it a very popular tourism destination, especially along its beaches and the Golden Mile, a beachfront of restaurants, shops and Durban event venues. Shark nets protect bathers (who also should remember that South Africans drive on the left).

Also known as Le Mercy, Durban has the wonderfully named King Shaka International Airport (DUR), which is approximately 20 miles north of the city center and was opened in 2010 especially for the soccer World Cup. Despite seeing more than five million passengers a year, it has no service to North America and only one international long-haul route to Dubai; it is serviced very regularly from Cape Town and Johannesburg, both in South Africa.

Unique function spots in Durban cover a large range of interesting topics and themes. For nature, choose between the Durban Botanic Gardens, which was created in 1849 and has a meeting room, an outdoor amphitheater, a hall and a lakefront lawn for events; Fitzsimmons Snake Park (which has approximately 250 snakes on display, some of them being the world’s most deadly) can host seminars, demonstrations and functions, and uShaka Marine World, a theme park at the end of the Golden Mile, which also has its fair share of venomous critters, as well as its own, much safer corporate-function staff team. Two other choices are the Playhouse Entertainment Complex, which has its own theater group, as well as the Opera Theater with 1,224 seats, Drama Theater with 464 seats and The Loft for 136 persons, and the KwaMuhle Museum, which chronicles the history of the black population of the city and has lobby and gallery space for events.

Venues

Chief among convention venues in Durban, the very popular International Convention Center Durban regularly wins awards and welcomes conventions and events from all over the world. Its facilities have space for 5,000 delegates on 70,000 square feet of column-free floor space and, if added to the adjacent Exhibition Center, 10,000 attendees; the road in between, Walnut Road, can be closed off for the exclusive use of conventions.

Hotel venues in Durban are numerous – although there are not as many North American-flagged properties as one might expect in such an international business center. Properties include the 449-room Southern Sun Elangeni, which has space for up to 500 persons; the 327-room Hilton Durban, which has 10 meeting rooms, space for groups of up to 400 persons and a site adjacent to the convention center; the 101-room Protea Hotel Edward Durban, which has meeting space for up to 200 persons; the 95-room Balmoral, which has group space for up to 150 persons; and the 23-room Quarters Hotel Florida Road, a boutique choice with Colonial style and meeting space for up to 25 persons.
