5 Ways to Sustain Motivation and Achieve Your Goals

Achieve Your Goals Through a Sustained Motivational Attitude

Sustaining motivation can be hard, even under the best of circumstances. It can be tough to stay on that motivational track when your list of to-dos is too long. Motivation is more than taping a picture of something you want to the fridge. It’s not magic, and it doesn’t come out of a bottle. You can’t buy it; instead, you have to tap into it and harness it.

Everyone has tips on how to do that, but if you take a close look at highly motivated and successful people, there are just a few things on their list to help them stay motivated.

1) Set Goals and Visualize Attaining Them

Set a goal, whether it’s for the day, week, month, or year. Of course, you should set achievable goals, so it’s not likely that one of your goals is going to be ‘become CEO next month.’ However, when you set that goal, visualize the steps needed to reach it down to the last detail. It can be a little exhausting, but it also provides a roadmap of what you need to do each day or each minute to reach it.

2) Break Your Goals Down into Smaller Tasks

Break down your goals is an effective technique for staying motivated. Chunking down your goals into relevant short-term tasks will allow you to better manage what needs to get done. Completing each task will also help you to create momentum which will help you stay motivated in completing the overall goal.

3) Create a List of ‘Whys’

Your list of why should include why you want to accomplish a particular goal because it is so easy to get off course in this fast-paced world. Studies have shown that if you write things down on a piece of paper with a trusted pen, you engage your brain in the process, so consider writing it out instead of typing it. You already know you want to achieve this awesome feat and you know that you can do it with time and effort. This knowledge is powerful, but again, it’s easy to get sidetracked, so making a list can be beneficial because you can refer back to it.

4) Give Yourself a Deadline

Creating a time limit for your tasks is a powerful motivational tool that will help you to accomplish goals. Deadlines help create a sense of urgency that will help you to focus your resources into completing your tasks.

5) Limit Your Distractions

A critical aspect of sustaining motivation is eliminating distractions. Whether it’s television, internet, video games, or even some people within your social circle, these things all have the potential to stifle your plans and motivation. It is difficult to sustain motivation when there are constant triggers around us that take away from our focus. Set some time for yourself to focus only on the things you need to accomplish.
